Irina believes there is an always present nonverbal language that is collectively experienced, but individually felt. Its presence is everywhere and it leaves its effect. This language is found in the shapes and colors of energy and matter that reverberate and repeat through the smallest to largest measurements of nature. In this painting she shares her experience of pregnancy. She says that it was "deeply personal, and concurrently felt like an integral part of the much larger ebb and flow of infinite life."
Irina Alimanestianu (American, b. 1957, Nyack, NY) is an artist and writer who was raised in New York, Switzerland, and France. She holds a BFA from New York University, an MBA from Columbia University, and an MFA from Claremont Graduate University. Her work has been featured in shows such as 3-D Painting, at the Peggy Phelps Gallery, in Claremont, CA curated by David Pagel (2009), Continental Drift at CMay Gallery, Los Angeles, CA curated by Shana Nys Dambrot (2015), and Fix-It-Up Too SASSAS at Blum and Poe Gallery in Los Angeles (2012). She currently works between NYC and Venice, CA.
Irina Alimanestianu's painting process is inspired by human connection. Through our cultural heritage and appropriating iconography of world religions and pop culture she seeks to further understand our being in our non-verbal collective history, exploring it through animism and biomorphic shapes. These connections are distilled into the raw energy of our beings, manifested through the language of abstraction.
